Mirror Moves – Featured Artist Show

I’m looking forward to partnering with painter Ginger Peña for a combined Featured Artist Show at the Redlands Art Association. This is the unique opportunity to see my photography side by side with Ginger’s interpretation. She has a beautiful style that I know you’ll love!

Mark your calendar for our reception Saturday, July 6, 2019, 3-5 PM. Would be great to see you there!

Photographer, painter share ‘mirror’ images in new Redlands exhibit

Painter Ginger Pena reproduced Bruce Herwig’s photographs for “Mirror Moves”

Painter Ginger Pena was scrolling through photographer Bruce Herwig’s Instagram feed when she spotted a photo of Maestro Frank Fetta conducting at the Redlands Bowl that she particularly liked.

“I asked Bruce if I could do a painting based on his photo and he was agreeable,” she recalled.

When Herwig suggested a joint exhibit at the Redlands Art Association, Pena said, she thought it could be a lot of fun.

The result is a featured artist show, “Mirror Moves: Two Artists Hanging Together,” which runs June 29-July 19 at the RAA gallery, 215 E. State St. A public reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 6.

The exhibit will comprise a dozen local Redlands and Inland Empire subjects, photographed by Herwig and then painted by Pena. The works will hang side by side.

“These are mirror images but are not,” Herwig said.

“I thought our collaboration would make an interesting and unique show,” Pena said. “I also thought it would be fun and educational for me to avoid simply copying Bruce’s excellent photos (but rather) to try interpreting them through my own sensibilities and through the different language of paint.”
