Lazy is a four letter word…

Success in life depends on many factors, but lazy isn’t one of them. Hard work, the ability to overcome adversity, a certain level of optimism, and the ability to stay with something long enough to see results all play a part.

What are top 7 signs of lazy behavior?

  1. Showing up late….consistently. Even after being talked to.
  2. Not finishing what they start.
  3. Doing just enough to “get by.”
  4. Lack of motivation is a hallmark of their character.
  5. Makes lame excuses why things can’t get done. Plays the blame game…it’s always someone else’s fault (never them).
  6. Procrastination…putting things off when they could be done early, to when they should be done, to sometimes, never being done at all. When things do get done, often it’s at the last minute with lots associated drama and things gone wrong (which could have easily been avoided if started earlier.)
  7. Showing no enthusiasm for their work, colleagues, company or industry.

I also find lazy people are full of ignorance and apathy (they don’t know and they don’t care)…ironically, are still highly opinionated about how things “should be.”

The book of Proverbs has many sayings about the lazy person. The term they use is sluggard, defined as a habitually lazy person. What a great word. It even sounds lazy! Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Proverbs 24: 33-34 “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.”
  • Proverbs 26:14 “As a door turns on its hinges, so does a sluggard on his bed.”
  • Proverbs 19:24 “A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth!”
  • Proverbs 26:13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! There is a lion in the streets!”
  • Proverbs 6:6-9 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Don’t be a sluggard!

Don’t work with one if you can help it.

And if you are ever in a position, never hire one.
